Gum Related - (Periodontal)

What causes Periodontal Disease
Our mouths are full of bacteriaand other invisible micro organisms. These bacteria, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless “plaque” on teeth. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque. Plaque that is not removed can harden and form bacteria harboring “tartar” or “calculus” that brushing doesn’t clean. Only a professional cleaning by a dental hygienist or dentist can remove tartar/calculus.

How is Periodontal Disease Treated?
The main goal of treatment is to minimize the damage to the gums and supporting tissues and control the infection. The mode of treatment will vary, depending on the extent of the gum disease. Every type of treatment requires that the patient keep up good daily optimal oral care at home. In addition to that, modifying certain habits, such as quitting tobacco use, might also be suggested as a way to improve treatment outcome. Depending on how advanced the periodontal disease, intervening of a Periodontist may be required.
